Meet Jane Norris

Every Morning at 2:30 I wake with a mission…to share my insights about news developments in the Federal Government and Washington D.C. If you’ve worked in media, you know that some mornings are easier than others. Frankly, most of the reporters who cover government don’t know what they don’t know.  I am thankful that I am no longer one of them.

Jane and TomA lifetime career in media and government makes Jane Norris a powerful force.  Anexperienced government and political analyst, she has contributed on-air analysis to NBC, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, News Channel 8, D.C. and Court TV. As a commentator on radio and television, she hosted a nationally broadcast talk radio show for Clear Channel Inc., and roused morning audiences with drive time shows on WMAL-AM, Washington, D.C. and WHAS-AM in Louisville, Kentucky. She now hosts a daily drive time morning show on Federal News Radio, WFED-1500AM in Washington D.C. and translates the complex world of government into valuable news.

Before joining WFED, Jane served in the Federal Government as the Director of the Office of Public Affairs for the Administration for Children and Families, in the Department of Health and Human Services and as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and also as Acting Assistant Secretary at DOL.

In the field of radio, her accomplishments as a talk radio pioneer are legendary.  She began her career on a power house station in Los Angeles, California, graduating from San Fernando Valley reporter to talk show host on KFI-AM, and went on to host her own live radio call-in programs on WINK-AM, Ft. Myers, Florida and WSB-AM, Atlanta, Georgia.  One of the first Talk-TV hosts, Jane hosted a live call-in television talk show weekdays at WAVE-TV in Louisville, KY.

Jane also managed the business side of broadcasting.  Starting out as a behind-the-scenes promotion director, she helped catapult stations in Philadelphia and Boston to the top of the ratings in their respective markets.  And her public relations skills were sought by International businesses such as the MIDEM organization, hosts of the American Market for International Television Productions (AMIP) television conference which introduced International Television programming to U.S. audiences.

In addition to her broadcast work, Jane has written editorial commentaries for the Lexington Herald Leader and columns for Today’s Woman Magazine. She is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and has done post-graduate study in Political Science and Arts Management at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
